SummaDayze
Friday January 1st Rymill Park
Review by Aaron

A hot 33 degrees welcomed in the new year and for all of those who attended SummaDayze it seemed as if the first 5 hours were spent sitting and laying in the shade, waiting for the sun to go down. Luckily Rymill Park is a great venue for dance festivals with plenty of shade for such activities.

Featuring 4 stages catering to different DJ’s and genres, from Hip Hop and R&B to House, Electro and Drum and Base. Top international Dj’s included, Carl Cox, Rodger Sanchez, Tom Novy, and Shapeshifters, just to name a few.

Personally I spent most of my time at the HQ stage, as it was best protected from the sun and featured Dj’s playing the tracks I knew.

By 5pm it was as if the place woke from its NYE hangover and really started to rock until it’s 10pm close (too early!)

On a negative note, there are never enough toilets at these venues, although I’ve seen worse and the lineup for drinks was huge! 15 – 20 mins if you were lucky, which is just not good enough. Having said that, I had a great time and would be keen for SummaDayze 2011!

7/10

The Falls Music & Arts Festival is one of the finest, longest running, boutique music events in Australia.

Boasting intimate surroundings of sheer beauty where music & arts from around the globe come together. Nestled on two farms that host the event simultaneously from December 29th until January 1st in the Otway Rainforest near Lorne along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, and near the beautiful Marion Bay beaches in Tasmania.

Set amongst the countries most spectacular scenery, the festival is based on European style events, including camping, arts, comedy, a great atmosphere, over 60 acts (international and national), beach access and a variety of activities and entertainment across a couple of days.

This year marked the 16th annual festival in Victoria and the 6th year in Tasmania. Good Ol Mother Nature couldn’t have been kinder to the punters at the 3-day music and art feast in Lorne over New Years.

The annual ‘Falls Festival’ is the epitomy of Utopia, far enough away from frown town (Melbourne) and Headlining acts included The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Moby, Grizzly Bear, The Temper Trap, Wolfmother plus an epic list of others.
